Followup on CalDAV story and some Outlook whining

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Well, time for a followup on my CalDAV story. I found RSCDS and tried to use this for my centrally stored calendar. This did work but not very good at all. I had major bugs against both korganizer and Evolution. Now, I dont give a shit anymore. I’m using Exchange, the best server for centrally stored calendars, tasks and contacts. It works like a charm against Evolution and I can use Outlook/web browser as well.

Trying to use Outlook 2007 for my two huge IMAP accounts, that wont work very good at all. Some people say mailboxes over 1Gb doesn’t work in Outlook. Might be so, I have around 4-5Gb mail overall and this is unusable in Outlook 2007 as it is now. Send/recieve takes around forever to complete, hanging both Outlook and the computer.

I’m NOT impressed by that performance.

Evolution reads mail from bottom and up

I had some weird behavior in Evolution this morning when I tried to read my email. Every email started from the bottom. This way of reading email isn’t that effective in my humble opinion. I googled a bit and found a good solution. The simple solution for me wasn’t disabling animated gifs in email or something like that, it was as simple as hitting the F7 button and killing ‘caret mode’. It is also found under the view menu.

When I did this, Evolution started to work like a.. eh charm again.
